This month, as part of my Declutter Cleanse 2017, I’m focusing on cleaning out my basement. My goal is to spend 15 minutes to a half hour daily on this.
I don’t look forward to going in the basement and having to think about what I want to do with all the items – trash, donate, sell, designate a spot…exhausting. So I have to find a way to motivate myself to get going.
I use two tricks with myself to avoid falling into the “I’ll do it tomorrow” mentality. I set my timer on my phone for 15 minutes and tell myself that I can stop when the 15 minutes is up. I let myself listen to one of my favorite podcasts while I’m sorting through everything.
Honestly, I listen to podcasts all the time – when I’m getting ready in the morning, while I’m driving, putting away laundry, cleaning the house…they are the best distraction! And you can find a podcast on any subject you are interested in.
Here are a few of my favorite podcasts that help get me into action:
Bitch Sesh: A Real Housewives Breakdown – Casey Wilson and Danielle Schneider talk about all the craziness that makes up the Real Housewives on Bravo. I pretty much laugh out loud every time I listen to this podcast. I almost think I like this podcast more than I like the Real Housewives – and that’s a lot.
Happier with Gretchen Rubin - Gretchen is the author of the NY Times bestselling book The Happiness Project and Better Than Before. I gained so much inspiration from these books as well as clarity regarding how I operate. Gretchen and her sister discuss different tips and products that can make your life a little bit happier. Gretchen and Elizabeth are so relatable and down to earth making the information they share that much easier to implement.
Yoga Church Conversations with Meadow DeVor – This podcast is like listening to two good friends having a candid conversation about simple life stuff that really impacts your wellbeing. I have always loved how Meadow uses her experiences and what she has studied to help others. I always have an “Aha” moment when I listen to this podcast. I seriously listened to “#11: Getting S#!t Done: Eliminating Procrastination, Overwhelm and Paralysis” four times because there was so much I took away from it.
GO! Podcast – Susan Hyatt brings a tidbit of weekly inspiration and motivation in this podcast released on Monday mornings. This podcast is less than 10 minutes and covers topics like how to achieve your goals to how to love your body. I enjoy how Susan uses her own personal experience as a way to support the message she is sending.
How She Really Does It – I have been listening to this podcast for over two years. Koren Motekaitis is the host and each week she interviews a thought leader or best-selling author. I have really enjoyed her interviews with Brene Brown, Martha Beck, Pam Grout and Vinnie Tortorich. Actually, as I was just scrolling through all her interviews, I found a ton with popular named guests that I haven’t even listened to yet – something to look forward to when getting ready in the morning!
